Ambien & palpitations -- just a side effect?
A few days ago my doctor gave me Ambien after a host of recent problem gave me bad insomnia. The Ambien helped me sleep, but I started having strong palpitations during the day. The first time I didn't even realize it was from the drug, but the next day it got even stronger. It was sheer torture. My heart was pounding so bad I thought it wanted to break my chest. I coudn't get up without my heart racing like crazy. The doctor didn't believe it was the Ambien, but I'm sure that's what it was, since it's listed as a side effect. Moreover, last night I didn't take it, and today (so far) ... no bad palpitations.
My question: Does the fact that I had such a strong reaction to the Ambien indicate that I could have an underlying problem, or is it just a side effect that means nothing?
