Unhappy Mitral Valve Regurgitation & Heart Attack

Hello all.. I am a 37 year old female who WAS in excellent health(non smoker, non drinker, vegetarian) until 2 weeks ago. I went for my morning brisk walk
and came home and was rushed to the emergency room with a heart attack. It was then discovered that I had mitral valve regurgitation. The doctor is still scratching his head at why this has happened to me, but has come up with that my heart spasmed and that is what has caused the heart attack.
He tried to give me malox at first until the blood test came back that I did indeed have a heart attack! Anyway, I was reading some threads seeing that others have mitral valve regurgitation but I wanted to know if (1)anyone had a heart attack? (2) Is anyone else on medication?(i'm on verapamil, 325mg of asprin, and lipitor) and (3) Does anyone else get just damn tired??......I feel like I'm 80!! I don't know if it is this leak or just recovering from the heart attack. The doctor said to walk, but I am SO SCARED because that is what got me into this mess! I tried to walk today with my kids and my 2 year old walked faster than me, and I got tired like every 2 min! I'm also experiencing numbness in my arms sometimes during the day, but mostly when I sleep. I wake up in the middle of the night and they are completely numb and I was sleeping on my back with my arms to my side?? I metioned this to the cardiologist and he said numbness was not a heart problem but sounded more like a spine problem??(4) Has anyone else experienced numbness? ok and one last thing......(5) I know about the dental thing but are virus like colds and flu HARMFUL to us leakers?? Thanks for reading!

Re: Mitral Valve Regurgitation & Heart Attack

Im 39 had my heart attack a month ago. I work as a hairdresser and i have a farm also small but keeps me busy. and i also am a single mom. i have always been active eaten good . But i was a smoker. no more!!!!! i feel all the same things that you do. I have found that stress is my biggest cause of all these symptoms . My doctor said the chest pain is normal and should get better. the numbness he didnt say much about. but i have a burrning inside where the razorblades were used. they could not stent mine because i would have had a massive heart attack and died. and no by pass was even didcussed, i dont know why. I also am very scared. but as time goes by with more recovery time that will ease up some. not alot exspecially for us as mothers. I also am very tired. that hurts my pride. i am a go getter. now after a month i still cant do my hair, clean, or even have a conversation without getting tired. I dont sleep. Depression will come very quickly. So watch out.And with children you will need a nerve pill. I hate taking the meds, I use 6 in the morning and 3 at night. So i have accepted that. It will keep me alive for the kids. My doc says that will change adventually. As i improve. By the way my heart attack was sudden as well. No warning., because I didnt know the warning signes. I was put on high blood pressur med and 4 days i had 2 heart attacks in the same day. right behind the other. It has been the hardest thing ever for me . Read and educate yourself. I concentrate on recovery, not why. I was told it was heriditary. I lost a brother to a massive heart attack 1year ago and now me. Good luck. I hope that i have helped. doll.

Re: Mitral Valve Regurgitation & Heart Attack

Thank you both for replying .....now I do not feel alone!
STEPHAINE, my leak is mild to moderate also. Did you know you had rhuematic fever ?? I use to get strep throat all the time as a kid and was always sick, but my Mom said that I never had rhuematic fever. Would we know? I wonder if the drugs are making us tired or the leak?? Is there ever light at the end of the "tired tunnel"??

DOLL-Heart attacks suck! I can't imagine having 2!! You said you have a burn inside from the razorblades?? I also get occasional burning inside but nothing was done to me inside? I did have a Cardiac catheterization, but my arteries were 100% clear, so nothing was done. I also has a TEE(transesophageal echocardiogram) boy that was fun! I felt like I swallowed a WHOLE Dorito without chewing it for days!! That was done to make sure I did not have a hole, but that came out negative. I also hate taking pills, but I feel like you, I want to live to see my kids. I have 3, how many do you have? I'm sorry about your brother, how old was he?
