heart misses a beat and then beats extra hard

Hi

I'm an 18 yr old female who is very active and exercises daily. I have always had a problem where my heart misses a beat and then beats extra hard, but recently it has gotten a lot more frequent, with it doing this 8 or so times an hour. I also have very pulse, at around 45-50 when resting. I've gone to my physician and he told me not to exercise anymore until i see a cardiologist. I have continued to exercised, but I have scaled back my routine and I don't exercise every day. I also drink and smoke pot a few times a week. I know this is probably not good for my heart, but I was wondering if anyone had information on what pot does to the cardiovascular system. Please don't try and help me stop drinking or smoking and don't lecture me on my choice to smoke and drink, I understand I should stop and I'm working on that. What I do need right now is information on why I might be having this irregular beat, what can be done, and how my lifestyle affects my problem. Thank you.

Hey I have the same thing. I am a 24 year old male, very active, it only seems to bug me when I am resting or laying down. When I am doing anything active, I dont notice it at all. They tell me its nothing to worry about, it sure feels like something to worry about, but many doctors have said I am fine.
I know my mom was in an exercise study, and they were comcerned when they found something like that while doing a test, but they sent her to a cardiologist and he said she is perfectly fine. Its just something some people have that doesnt hurt them at all. I would get it checked out, but I am sure you are fine.

Hello,
I have this quite a lot, where my heart beat is not missed, but it is delayed and when it comes it is quite a strong beat then the regular beat afterwards.
Im not too sure what is causing this as I have had it constant for about three days now. Perhaps it was something I ate as I know that I have an unusual reaction to monosodium glutomate.

I believe this heart issue is called palpitations.

Best getting checking it out for sure.

I got that really bad after I had my daughter! If it were only 8 times in one hour I'd have been happy! Mine was coming about 2 times per minute for 4 hours straight! It happened again the next night... so I went to a doctor and it was nothing at all. (good to have it checked to make sure it's not mitro valve prolapse), but that is very very common. My mom was getting it too, she's going to be 70 and she had all kinds of heart tests and ended up being told her heart is perfect. Sometimes the beat is so hard it feels like your breath is taken away or something! (well, I'm a very nervous person, so I could be imaging that part, but it was scarey!!) It still happens but never as bad anymore.

Yeah, the breath thing happens to me also, a strange sensation in my throat just at the chest. Kinda makes you cough a bit.
Apparently it is quite common in anxiety and stress.

It could be your thyroid, your hormone levels or stress. I was diagnosed with overactive thyroid and had very similar symptoms with a few more added in there such as muscle weakness, shortness of breath and irritability. Its probably not actually your heart, but its best to get it checked out.

What you are talking about is called "PVC's" Premature Ventricular Contractions. . millions of people suffer from them and most of the time they are benign.. if your DR says your heart is healthy, and your tests all came back fine, it's benign.. I get the same thing and trust me, it's annoying.. I will be sitting on the couch watiching TV and POOF one will come on.. I wasn't even doing anything. I get them REALLY bad around that time of the month for me.

The dr in the ER told me that 80% of the population in this world get PVC's.. some don't feel them, some do.. it depends if the patient is symtomatic or not. PVC's are safe and non harmful to a healthy person.. they are more annoying than anything. If they REALLY bother you and you get them frequent, you can talk to your DR about the possibility of putting you on a Beta Blocker. They help the frequency of mine. I am on Toprol XL 50mg.

I hope this help.. but that pause and hard beat is a PVC.. extra beat premature beating.. the 3 major causes of these are caffiene, smoking and alchohol.

I hope this helps..
