Occasionally I experience a strange sensation in my chest followed by a sort of fluttering. Usually this lasts just a couple of flutters but the other day it lasted for 4 1/2 minutes and when I took my pulse it was beating maybe 3 or 4 beats and then seeming to miss one. I get this mostly when I am in bed about to go to sleep although once it happened when I was driving and made me quite breathless that I had to stop driving - that time it felt as if my heart was about to leap out of my chest. I am 38.
Is this normal?
Yes, it is most likely "normal." What you are experiencing is premature beats which oddly enough seem to occur more often in healthy hearts than diseased . That being said, if it's happened enough to bother you, by all means ask a doctor about it to rule out any possible causes that may need to be treated .
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen." ~ Hebrews 11:1 ~
yes...I get this sensation as well....but mine is often and makes me feel sick and quite rotton. I have had a heart monitor fitted a while back ...and it said only a missed beat..as two beats togther..then misses...but I do not like the sicky feeling....I could be sitting down to a meal and it happens and puts me off...and I could be going somewhere and I end up not going because I feel un well...anoying really
