Unhappy b/p 156/93 and 136 bpm!!!

undefinedHi I'm new to this board and I have a question. I am 18 and was diagnosed with chronic high blood pressure at age 12 or 13. I am 25 weeks pregnant and my latest b/p reading was 156/93 and my heart rate was 136 bpm!! It has NEVER been over 145/90!! I was wondering how could this affect my pregnancy and what precautions should my OB be taking?? Thanks for any help you can give me!!
Are these "side affects" normal or should they be a worry ....
eyes pulsing with heart beat
hands feel like they are BURNINGGG
extreme nervousness

Re: b/p 156/93 and 136 bpm!!!

My daughter's last pregnancy resulted in high blood pressure. Her feet were swollen in the later months. When she gave birth (by caesarian), she had to be put to sleep because her BP was so high (they had to get the baby out very quickly). Thankfully everything turned out fine. - my grandaughter is now 18 months old. Now, my daughter is pregnant again and due in June/05. This time, she has a new OB/GYN, who is monitoring her carefully, Thankfully, this time, her BP is normal. What she did was to buy a BP monitoring system for home, and she takes it 2x daily. She keeps a record and takes it to each visit. What does your doctor say about your BP? Does he or she recommend any medication (if you can take any)? Make sure you are being watched carefully. I don't want to scare you, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

My doc isn't really saying anything, and they don't want to put me on meds cause they say "the baby has been living with it like this for so long it might be a shouck to him/her". They aren't to conserned. I go back in 3 WEEKS!!!

Wow. Have you seem a cardiologist? I am 32 weeks and they want to start me on meds right away. Your blood pressure and high pulse could result in post partum cardiomyopathy. I only know this because that is what happened to my sister. She had a very rough birth because her blood pressure got extremely high and it scared the Crud out of all of us. My OB admits that he knows little about hearts and sent me to a cardiologist. I am glad he did. Im really not trying to scare you but it can become serious if you dont get taken care of. In the mean time eat healthy and take short walks. Good Luck

Re: b/p 156/93 and 136 bpm!!!

I think my doc is clueless, but won't admit it. They act like it is perfectly ok. It scares me though because they didn't give me any advise other then " go to the hospital if you faint!" I don't know anything I should be watching for, any symptoms of any kind, or, well....anything. I have had it for a long time so I don't even feel my heart beating hard or fast when it happens, so I don't know what to do. I mean I have felt it pounding a few times this past month (including today), but when it read 156/93 and 136bpm I felt fine...great actually. So does that mean if I can actually feel it, it is at dangerously high levels. I'm sorry I keep asking everyone so many questions, its just that everytime I ask the doc something, she says " I don't know". Its really frustrating and I have been reading alot and I am starting to worry about having to be induced early.
