Chest

Hi - I have a question - sometimes I get this pain in my chest. It only lasts a second - just like a flash or something and I am wondering what it is. Is it something I should be worried about. I can be just relaxing when it happens. It can happen several times a day for a few days and then it vanishes for a few weeks again. I am a 46 year old female going through perimenopause and I do suffer from palpatations at times and the usual peri stuff - anxiety etc. I also have started on HBP med.
Any replies greatly appreciated.

Maggie

Re: Chest

Maggie you could be having coronary artery spasms. I would get it checked out. I had them and it could be a warning. I have a feeling that it may have something to do with estrogen levels because mine would come on and then suddenly it wouldn't happen for weeks like you say and then they would start again. I had it where it would feel like just a quick sharp stab and then I've also had it where it would be a rhythmic squeezing that would make me feel just slightly short of breath. If it is artery spasms it can be quite dangerous so get checked out. I was 41 when this was happening to me so you are not too young. Don't mean to scare you.

Re: Chest

healthy100 I believe there just have not been enough studies of young women with heart disease for them to really now how it feels to us. I know that I had sharp very quick pain in my chest. Like a stabbing pain twice before my blockage was found. I was also told that after my stent narrowed to 40% then to 60% that I shouldn't be experiencing symptoms with that degree of narrowing. There is no doubt in my mind that I was feeling pain from it. I also believe that I was having milder symptoms of heart blockage for years. I believe it was due to that artery ever so slowly blocking more and more. Just as I felt symptoms after my stented area narrowing I believe I was feeling it because it had narrowed possibly to that 40% or 60% that caused me to have symptoms following the stent until eventually the artery narrowed to 75% causing me to have more intense symptoms that I could not possibly ignore. Before it got to that point I was able to pass the symptoms off as something else because they were not intense. This is strictly my opinion from personal experience. I doubt very many doctors would agree.
