Anyone with pvc's go under general anesthesia for surgery? - Heart Disorders Message Board

I have pvc's (not on any meds for it) and I was wondering what your experiences were with general anesthesia and pvc's?

I've had them most of my life - I'm 50 years old. Had carpal tunnel surgery and a colonoscopy last year-both no problem. I too was scared-I let the Docotrs know before hand and they put me at ease. Prior to both procedures-I was given Xanax to calm down. Good Luck and please don't worry you will be fine. (By the way-prior to going into surgery for the carpal tunnel-I was given a Chest X-ray and EKG.)

I'm a lot older than 50 (78 to be precise), and have had PVC's most of my life. I also have had other major heart problems including a severe heart attack, 6-bypass surgery, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation.

I have had had, since the heart attack, gall bladder surgery (with a 12" incision), coronary bypass surgery (six bypasses), two throat biopsies, and two hernia surgeries, all under general anesthetics. And three colonoscopies and one endoscopy under whatever anesthetic they use for this.

Tell the doctor and anesthetist that you have PVC's and they'll be on the alert for this. Based on my experience, I don't think you have much to worry about. But then I'm no doctor.

Thanks for your answers! I have surgery scheduled for this Monday (not heart related) and I was terrified! You both have put me at ease. Thanks again! You have also given me hope for a long life with pvc's. p.s. since you both mentioned your age.....I'm 31.
