| Re: Pounding Heart Help!
It could also be a heart condition....a few years ago, i had an experience like that...i felt like i couldn't catch my breath and my heart was pounding so hard! i got lightheaded and had to lie down. It was really scary. Also i had palpitations periodically and they gradually became more regular. Finally, last year, i got checked out and found i DO have a heart problem! I was only 28 at that time so I was shocked and scared. But now, the condition is controlled with medication and my heart rate is always nice and steady....it sounds like you had an episode of tachycardia which is just rapid heart rate. Some people with it get it all the time and need pace makers, others just get episodes and can control it with something like a beta blocker....which is just a med that blocks the stress hormone from affecting the heart and keeps your heart rate regular. Don't be frightened though until you have been checked out (easier said than done, i know!). What I have is called 'Mitral Valve Prolapse w/regurge' and is not life threatening, but should be monitored. Hope all this helps, and good luck to you! Lil'Pea
