Hi, I was born with mild pulmonary stenosis and have always had occasional palpitations all my life. anyway 2 or 3 yrs ago the palpatations went mad, 10,000 or 11,000 a day with a heavy chest feeling. i got my hubby to take my pulse and he could feel my pulse stopping and starting via my wrist. I went to the doc who said it was stress and it is where my heart is taking a quicker beat ( too soon) the hospital did a xray, echo and ecg and all was fine, i think the doc felt i was a pain in the butt to be honest. Well i still have these episodes but not as often but what i do get now is a sort of chest pain/ache. i get very breathless but am overweight. i was walking home the other day, it was a very long walk and the sort of pain/ache in my chest was really killing me going through to my back, i thought i was going to have to stop and sit on the pavement, i carried on as i had my child with me and didn't want to panic her. Once home and rested it went. Then i went out for a glass of wine and a meal( large one) and again i felt breathless and had this terrible chest pain/ache and i started to get really breathless as well. sort of panting ( how embarressing) . This often happens now but the doc thinks i am just over anxious. Should i do anything?? i worry that they are missing something. My mum had a heart problem all her life but i don't know what, she had a heart attack aged 37 ( im 41) in her forties she developed angina. My dad has COPD and is slowly dying. I NEVER get pain in my arm or neck and i often just have to sit and rest but the pain/ache does get bad, i have to keep rubbing my chest, . Advice please as i dont want to go back to this heart doc again and show myself up.

Reason: need to add an important bit of info
Its difficult to know what is happening, but I noticed a few things worth mentioning based on my own experience.
1. Don't let any doctor make you feel bad for getting checked. Feel free to be assertive about your care. It is your life. Early detection is very important for many diseases.
2. You mentioned going out to eat a large meal with alcohol the evening that you had severe chest pains.
3. You may or may not have anxiety issues. You may or may not have heart issues. You may or may not have gastro issues. Find out. Work with your doctor(s) to rule stuff out and get treated for what's left. If you truly have stress/anxiety issues, knowing the facts will help as well.
well it is now October 2006, and i have had all the tests done, dr says i am alright. I still get terrible palpitations. and i still get a terrible crushing sensation in my chest. I got it today and had to keep gasping to catch my breath, the palps really really hurt and it felt like my heart was really being squeezed tight. But otherwise i have been fine for over 3 months now, no heart symptoms until now. I am not sure what this is but will have to live withit as the dr says all the tests were ok.
