Please help with this strange symptom

Hey guys. I haven't posted here in a while, but I'm continuing to have some symptoms that are troubling, especially a loud, thumping heartbeat in my ears when I lie down.

Whenever I lie on my side with my ear on the pillow, every few seconds I'll hear one or two really loud, strong, thumping heartbeats, usually when I exhale. They're so loud that I'm unable to fall asleep on my side anymore.

I've had just about every heart-related test in the book, and they've all turned out normal, except for a slightly enlarged aorta (40mm), which the doctors seem to think is simply a matter of me being a big guy.

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as this is rather unnerving, and the last thing I need is more difficulty sleeping.

Thanks.

-Ryan

Re: Please help with this strange symptom

You should see an ear, nose & throat doctor to have some tests done. If they find nothing wrong and diagnose it as pulsatile tinnitus, like I have, you may hear from the doctor "you just have to live with it". It's not true. There are meds that help and I'm on 2 drugs that rid me of the noise 80 to 90% of every day. I take effexor (anti-depression capsule - min. dose) & clonazepam (anti-anxiety tablet - min. dose). I've been taking them for 5 years now. I suffered with depression a great deal of my life and now I don't and I also dealt with anxiety because of being told I had to just live with the p.t.. I feel great and I'm happy to be able to live without the ear noise most of the time.

If you do not have depression, possibly the clonazepam alone would do the trick. By the way, it's a very inexpensive medication.

My mom takes 2 clonazepam, before bedtime and it rids her of her restless legs syndrome.
