chest pain = heart problems ?

Hello,

I am 23 year old male and I have a question.
I have a short chest pains like 1 sec needle and only one small spot, not all chest type of thing and then it goes away....maybe a few times a day.
I know I had the same issue couple years back and I went to 911 they told me my heart was fine..
My question is if i regularly go to the gym and I dont feel any heart pain and it all goes well and I tested my blood pressure its 112/70 could it still be a heart problem? My pulse also seems to be normal its like 67-87 and like I said its a needle feeling type of mini second.

My mom has the same thing she went to see her dec but they told her its the nerves that are in her ribcage that are hurting...

Could that be stress? or nerves?

When I also had the pain right at the moment I tried doing pushups and all and I didnt feel any difficulties and I recently did all kinds of blood tests and they also did not see any problems....

Can please someone who knows about this tell me some more?
Thanks

Re: chest pain = heart problems ?

Have you gone to a cardiologist? Best place to start checking on the heart, tests they can do to make sure that it is not the heart. Your mother shoudl go to one also to make sure also. Good luck. Hugs for today.

Re: chest pain = heart problems ?

Not all test are done with needles, echocariogram is done with a wand that is run over the heart region. There is other procedures with needles. There is also a cardiac cath that checks for clogged arteries. You need to be tested to be sure of everything. Good luck.

Re: chest pain = heart problems ?

Sounds more like a musculo-skeletal thing. Short sharp twinges like that.

Heart pain would come on for a few minutes following exercise/stress etc, not for a second or two. Also it is usually a squeezing feeling rather than a sharp pain.

You should discuss your worries further with your doctor and I'm sure be reassured.

I would not have a test such as cardiac catheterisation with those symptoms! It has definite risks, although uncommon, and should only be done if there is strong suspicion of heart problems. One has to always balance risks and benefits.

Mtlguy, I would relax and carry on with your great exercise. Good luck.

Re: chest pain = heart problems ?

I went to the ER and chest pain is the keyword that gets you in I never knew that....

I have some syndrome that when I get nerveous my blood pressure went up to 175 :S insane?
and heart beat 115

They put me on the monitor and they gave me Ativan and let me lay there for 3 hours then did blood tests

one of the tests was a protein or something thats inside your heart
they checked for any demage and they said its not the heart as the results came out to be clean and chest exray was ok too no problems.

Only thing is my mom has this thing that is called "Nevrolgia" its in russian I dont know how to say this in english but its the nerves inbetween the ribs that start hurting etc....

Re: chest pain = heart problems ?

myguy,

Sounds like the Russian is a stab at "neuralgia" but I think the precise term for that inflammation of the rib connectors is COSTOCHONDRITIS.

I am almost certain that your heart is perfectly fine!
