Former eating disorder worried about her heart...

Hello
I have been suffering from bulimia for a long time, and am worried that I have done damage to my heart. I am having a physical this week and was wondering if the EKG my Dr. is going to do will be able to tell if I have done any real damage? I do have a small heart murmur but haven't really had any problems. I do occassionally have mild heart/chest pain, like "twinges", but nothing major.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Former eating disorder worried about her heart...

Eating disorders can damage the heart. Even crash dieting can cause wasting away of muscle and the heart is the most important muscle. I hope you are getting professional help for your eating disorder and that you've not done permanent damage.

Natasha,

You're probably fine. Bulemia might easily cause an inflammed esophagus which of course manifests as mid chest pain.

I DO hope the bulemia is mostly behind you?
