not a heart attack but felt like one....

At 8pm about all of a sudden while surfing the net I felt pain in my chest. I knew what was coming.. I had it last week too. The pain in my chest was sooo bad as it spread to my upper back. 1-10 in pain it would be a 10! I couldn't get comfortable as I started to get short of breath and felt very nauseated. I couldn't even stand up straight. The pain was unbearable as I started to cry.. which even made it worse. I began to sweat. DH called the ambulance and my blood pressure was 130/ over something. They gave me some sorta spray in the mouth which worked some. I got to the hospital and I still had pain. My blood pressure was still high. They did an xray and couldn't find anything obvious. The dr's were puzzled esp since I had this last week and it lasted 20 mins.. I didn't call anybody. They said I might have an ulcer, blood clots, or galbladder. If I have this again then i'll have a galbladder scan. So for now they are treating it like an ulcer and i'm on the purple pill. I've had an ulcer and acid reflux before but nothing like this! Anyway, I got a shot for pain and some IV since I was dehydrated. When my pain was okay my blood pressure was too low. I ended up leaving the hospital when it was 81/47. The nurse tried to tell me to stay and even tried to talk the dr into it.. but they said to come back if I get dizzy or anything. I'm just really really tired.. and pale as they said. I was wheeled out by wheel chair and I have a feeling i'll be back again. = / anyone ever have anything like this before? Weird how I went from high bp to low. It was everywhere.

I'm sorry for writing it in here. I had no idea where to write this and I seriously need some help. I'm only 21 and had my baby just 4 weeks ago. I should be healthy.

Re: not a heart attack but felt like one....

The dr must be relying on more information than you have to rule out a heart condition. Although unlikely at your age, your symptoms are not inconsistant with a heart disorder. It seems to me an EKG (graphic output of the heart's activity) would be warranted. Also a blood test would reveal more information regarding your heart, liver, kidneys, etc. The test may have been done!

Personally, I would call your Doc tell him/her everything and demand an EKG and ultrasound to rule out blood clots. Having just had a baby several weeks ago, you are at a heightened risk for clotting.

Re: not a heart attack but felt like one.... PLEASE READ

This is very interesting. I am 38. I too started having chest pains 10 days after my baby's birth in 2001. I had the same type of symptoms and diagnosis too. I went to four hospitals in four years and a whole lotta specialists and test. I was told I was having acid reflux, panic attacks, or gallbladder disease. Any way long story short, I did have a heart attack last month and they found evidence of old heart attacks too! My EKGs always showed up normally. As a matter of fact, they almost sent me home the night I had the MI, saying it was "gallbladder". One ER doctor decided to do a heart catheter and found some minor blockages... here is the good part.... the old pain hit hard while I was on the table during the heart cath, while they were filming it. They saw my coronary arteries go into spasm and basically cut all the blood off, cauing the pain. It surprised us all. Please have your doctor do a heart catheter! I swear you case sounds just like mine.
You could have the same coronary spasm condition.

Stories like this one scare the CRAP out of me.

Its like I have no idea where the anxiety ends and where being persisant about your health begins. When does it become irrational. When do you trust the doctors and diagnosis????
