What meds for pulse rate of 128-129 resting?

Hi All,
For the last two weeks or a little more I've been having resting pulse rates in the 120s - I'm incredibly anxious, having chronic hyperventilation, and have gained 50 lbs in the last 5 weeks from binge eating....I had an echocariogram and pulmonary function tests and both were normal....my BPs were good last week 117/79 but this week I am high 130s/90....I have Benicar to take for that but nothing for the pulse rate - what meds are used for that? Thanks!
Kathy

Timber,

Can you recommend a beta blocker? I've been on Toprol and that caused the hair to thin so I stopped taking that.. I'm currently on Tarka 2/240mg it did wonders for my bp but my heart is still around the 90'2 to 100's

Thanks,
Snoopgirl

Re: What meds for pulse rate of 128-129 resting?

Hi Guys,
Timber - thanks - That's what I needed - I called the doc and asked for a betablocker - he gave me atenolol (Tenormen)....I am doing some better - got my pulse back under 100 - running around 93 now....but I am still very short of breath - wish I could get rid of that.....
Snoopgirl - I'm not having hairloss on this one.... (I think my pulse may normally be in the 90s when I'm awake - my doc told my husband to take my pulse when I was sleeping - it was in the 70s......Awake, my anxiety gets the better of me....

Kathy,

Atenolol is cheap and will do the job.

If you remain short of breath or develop any chest pain or heartburn on extertion, see your doctor about a nuclear stress test.

Re: What meds for pulse rate of 128-129 resting?

I do have chest pain and have been under treatment for reflex with aciphex for several months - the chest pain is intermittent and on the left side directly under my left breast....it's pretty localized and hurts pretty bad when it flares- I have told the docs.....it doesn't seem to care exertion or not - stress though can set it off....

what would a nuclear stress test tell me?

also on my echocardiogram the technician noted that the heart muscle did not relax back down completely - the cardiologist who read it did not not it in his impression - should I worry that this is restrictive cardiomyopathy or constrictive pericarditis??

This SOB is getting really old really fast....

Thanks for your feed back - at least I got the resting pulse under a 100 thanks to you all!

Best wishes,
Kathy
