cold meds and heart condition - Heart Disorders Message Board

I have a really bad sore throat and I have wolff parksinson white syndrome. So I can not take traditional cold meds with anything that coul dstimulate my heart. Anyone know what I can take? I think I am in a catch 22 here because I am also pregnant.

How about just roughing it out? Personally I never take medication for a cold and soar throat (unless maybe some tablets for the throat). I've heard liquid honey is good for easing the throat.

Suck on throat lozenges. Throat lozenges are generally just pieces of candy with harmless things like menthol, eucalyptus or gelatin added. They coat your throat and make it feel a little better. Did your doctor tell you not to take pain relievers like Tylenol or Aleve?

For a sore throat the only thing that works is a numbing spray like Chloraseptic. It should be fine for you to use.
For any serious coughing consider a codeine cough syrup...with guiafenesin (Guiatuss)if you can't get any that is ONLY codeine. Codeine pills ala Emprin 2 or 3 should work well without the baggage of the expectorant.

AVOID anything with the word decongestant...they are ephedrine like stimulants. (Usually pseudoephedrine these days, but even that is increasingly being banned.)

Watch out! Cough too much will push your baby out. (Cervic dilated earlier) That time you need a lot of VENTOLIN. Even worse.

I've WPW too. During my 2nd pregnancy, it happened to me like that too. My Dr prescribed antibiotic for me because I had fever. Try to use salt water to gargle. How many weeks you're in pregnant now? See your Dr, he knows what to do.
