Bad night in the ER--please help - Heart Disorders Message Board

Hi everyone...
I Just got home from the ER, I have been having bad episodes of pounding heart when standing up and feeling lightheaded, that has been going on for a couple of months now. So i had a really really bad episode earlier this evening and so I couldnt take it anymore and went to the ER...At check in they found that upon standing my heart rate went from 88 to 150, and it appeared my blood pressure went up. IT was 146/82 --my BP is usually 110/75 -- so then i waited for about 3 hrs then was seen, the ER dr told me I was NOT an emergecny and treated me really badly--they then tested me from laying flat to standing and same thing happened, bp up and pulse up. sit down, back to normal.

They ran some tests, all came back normal..he told me that he had no idea what is going on with me, and that maybe i standing too fast ( every single time i stand up?? ) and that my bp is droppign and then my heart beats fast and i panic and my bp goes up. or that it could be an inner ear infection.
They gave me some meds for dizzyness and sent me home. Still getting rapid heart rate when standing..

anyone out there with this or know anything about it? I have an appt with my pcp on the 28th..i just couldnt wait any longer and had to go to the er...please help. i am worried..

Oh my history.. i am 25, 5'4 146 pounds ...had a baby 7 months ago, and i had my gallbladder out 3 months ago.

I would go to my doctor and ask for a "tilt table test" this may show what is going on I am no doctor but one one thing that came to my mind is
Orthostatic Tachycardia ...you can do a search on that see what ya think and ask your doctor about it if ya want.....there are several things that could be the cause I hope you find out really soon its no fun going years being blown off and not knowing I know .......also do you take any blood pressure meds? sometimes they can cause things like this too.

I think it would be good to go to a regular Doc and tell him your concerns, but you might just be run down from you going through so much, so close together.
The symptoms that you describe happen in my family when they don't take care of themselves after they have had surgery or been seriously ill. It is one way I can tell when they are not taking care of themselves. So when they do go through something like that, I always try to build them back up immediately.
Our body always lets us know when our system is out of balance from a traumatic experience it has gone through (such as surgery) or is currently going through (such as an infection). I would always give them quality vitamins and minerals, plus re-hydrate them as quickly as possible (with out caffeinated drinks or sugary sodas).

You need a specialist in POTS, this is apparently beyond your doctor. There's work being done on postural orthostatic tachycardia at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, under the auspices of the NIH.

Thank you for those links..I have been doing my own research since the Docs seem clueless and I found POTS...It seems really scarey...do you know if POTS shortens your life span at all?? Is it deadly? I am going to check out those links right now. Thank you so much.
