Scary Episode Last night

I have an apointment with my doctor for next week for regular heart/etc stuff. But last night my heart was acting up, more than usual. My pulse wasn't super high for me, about 175. I get arrythmias not a whole lot.. but often. Anyways... last night my heart started pounding so I hooked myself up to the heart monitor and my heart skipped a beat for maybe 2 or 3 seconds... and in the subsequent two to three seconds my pulse literaly fell from 175 to low 50s. The machine started beeping like crazy and it scared me and my mom! Should it be ok if I wait to go to the doctor next week or should I be worried? Just want to make sure, havent had anything like that happen before.

Well the reason your pulse fell was because of that 2-3 second gab in beats. I'm sure the machine looks at a short segment of beats and calculates a pulse from those beats. Having a nice segment of beats missing is going to make it look like your pulse dropped real low. If its uncommon for you to skip 2-3 seconds worth of beats, I would go to the doctor as soon as you get the chance. Otherwise if you doctor knows you get skipped beats, then its up to you.

Well the odd thing was that it slowly went down afterwards. I thought it was from the missed beats and if it would have spead up again I wouldn't have really thought about it. But it went from origonal 175 to skipping.. to staying around 50. I've never had an 'episode' end with skipping a beat.

Re: Scary Episode Last night

Personally, if it were me (the paranoid easily freaked out gal) I would call and get in sooner. I am sure you will probably be fine otherwise, but what can it hurt?? If I am sick or having some particular problem my Dr always has me come in the same or following day (heart related or otherwise).

Personally, I couldnt stand to have my pulse at 178. I would want answers and a solution asap if for nothing else, comfort and peace of mind

Good luck to you!!
