Cheryl if you have any breathing problems and you stated you had exercise induced asthma you should not be taking any Beta Blockers.Your Doctor should try a calicum blocker and yes you would have to wean off of the propranolol while you start the calicum blocker. I agree the propranolol is the best I have been taking it for thirty years for a very fast heart rate and when calicum blockers came out I tried it for a month and it didn't help me not to say it won't help you. My husband can only take a calicum blocker because he has asthma and he wishes he could take the beta blocker but all of his docs over the years have told him no. One thing you might tell you Doc is that a beta blocker type pill is going to be available soon for people with asthma or breathing problems and when it is approved you might want to try that. My dose of Inderal was 240 mg a day but since have been given innopran xl 80 mg twice a day and since it is long lasting it works all day without the drop of medicine that just plain propranolol will do. I could always feel when I needed another inderal.. My husbamd takes cardizen cd 240 mg.
