scared/had very bad svt!!!

Hi, I am new here.

I was recently hospitalized after having my heart rate go to 235. I was driving and thought I was having a heart attack, I am 41 and otherwise very healthy. The ambulance came and they had to give me some drug in my iv (don't remember what it was) to get my heart rate to come down. I was just so scared that I was going to die and never see my husband or children again. A few weeks after this happened I started having panic attacks (which I never had before) it has been a rough few weeks to say the least. I am now taking digoxin and paxil. The cardiologist said I could have more svt's or never have another one. I am so scared that I will need the ablation surgery. Any advice or info from other people that have had this would be so great. Thanks for listening!!

my heart would go up to 250bpm (once in the er the hr monitor said 300 BPM!!!)and the episodes i had would last hours, ive never had one that lasted a few minutes... i opted for an ablation instead of meds, i didnt wanna be taking meds for the rest of my life at such a young age esp a heart med that would make me feel like crap. atleast now i dont have to worry about svts anymore. ablations really arnt anything to be scared of, its something to be thankful for. its a cure for svt in most cases. i was 17 when i had my ablation, now im almost 21 and i havent had one single episode of svt since.

I want you to know that I was not so long ago EXACTLY where you are now. I would like to share my story with you. This is something I have written a couple months ago..but I think you may be interested. Actually, I will create a new post in case anyone else can draw some familiarity from it. I think that so often arrythmias - especially tachycardias - go hand in hand with anxiety and panic. I will call the post Exhausting Vigilance.

I also want you to know that as I awaited my appointment with the EP (to find out if I may have needed an ablation) I was PETRIFIED!!!! I did NOT want to have that ablation. Drugs for the rest of my life I can handle..invasive procedures..I cannot. Anyway, when I spoke to him and his RN I started BAWLING. I was so relieved when he said that he saw nothing there that needed ablation.

I have been on medication since 'the event' and I have not had a bout of SVT since. I am however switching meds this week and have had quite a bit of anxiety about that. However, not to the point of panic. I hope to God I never have to go thru that again. But deep down I know that I can handle just about anything.

Re: scared/had very bad svt!!!

My son first went into SVT when he was 2 weeks old. His heart was beating over 300 beats per min. I was told he should outgrow it by the time is was 1 yr old. He is now 3 yrs old and still has lots of episodes of SVT. I dont know how it feels but i know it is not nice to watch someone go through it. I hope you never have another.
