Swollen feet and maybe abdomen?

The outer sides of my feet have been swollen for a few days now and i've had what I thought was AFIB for 5 months.

I went to the doctor today and she said my feet are swollen but it doesn't look like the kind of swelling from heart failure. I haven't had any massive weight gain since about three weeks ago but I have gained a pound and i'm still scared I have heart failure. I just don't get how AFIB could of caused heart failure in only five months. She did check me and said my pulse and blood pressure are 100% normal and she listened to my heart and said it seemed fine.

I just want to know what is causing this swelling.

Re: Swollen feet and maybe abdomen?

I don't believe you are having heart failure......swelling alone with no other symptoms like: Shortness of Breath, Unable to sleep without propping up on pillows, Unusual Fatigue, Arrhythmia, Dry Cough, Also, a productive cough of white sputum or blood tinged sputum, Purplish colored finger nails and lips from not getting enough oxygen.

Too much sodium or standing too long can cause Edema. Are you taking any new meds.?

If you think you need to get checked out, I think it would be worth it to put your mind at ease and make any adjustments to bring down the swelling.

Try elevating your legs and wear loose fitting socks and shoes (comfortable, supporting shoes), also, support stockings or support knee highs may help with swelling.

If you were in A-fib for 5 months, you would have been in the ER in a matter of a week or less. I'm kinda confused, did you get a definite diagnosis of A-fib? Again, make sure you are checked by a cardiologist if you need to.

Hope you feel better soon. Penk

Re: Swollen feet and maybe abdomen?

Hi, I have had a similar problem and after undergoing some tests, heart has not been completely ruled out. But, another suggested would be that the water retention in the feet and abdomen could be related to the condition of the kidneys. Might be worth investigating further.
thanks for your advice and support...

Re: Swollen feet and maybe abdomen?

I've had episodes.

I haven't had the abnormal heart rate for five months straight.

I did have a cough very often but she said that didn't even sound like something from heart failure.
