Does anyone know what Right side heart failure is?? - Heart Disorders Message Board

I have been doing some research on my emphysema and there was this one symptom that said I might have this happen to me.Right side heart failure,Does it really stop?How Long does it stop for?Does it restart by itself?These are the things I am having most trouble with.Can anyone be of help?

The right ventricle fails to efficiently pump blood to the lungs to be oxygenated. Fluids will backup in the lower extremities (edema). Right ventricle heart failure (if not properly treated) will eventually effect the left side's output and heart muscle damage, etc.

It's not a good term because heart failure implies a sudden heart stoppage...like brake failure. Heart Failure is the end stage of a slow process of a weakening heart usually characterized as cardiomyopathy.

Your emphysema makes it very hard for the right ventricle to pump blood into your lungs and this eventually cause blood to back up into organs like the liver, GI system and legs...edema. Heart failure and emphysema share many of the same lung symptoms.

Heart failure is not always end stage. There is right and left side heart failure.
Heart failure affects the pumping action of the heart. It is most often caused by a heart attack. It attributes to an enlargement of the heart. Heart failure can be effectively managed by following your doctors orders and have the right medication regimen. Heart failure does not stop your heart, cardiac arrest is resposible for this.
