Controlled hypertension?

I got copies of my records of an outpatient diagnostic test done the other day and there's a box checked that says I have "controlled hypertension". Does anyone know what that is?

Thanks.

Ken

Re: Controlled hypertension?

Ken,

it means you were diagnosed with high blood pressure, but the antihypertensive drugs you are taking are lowering it to suitable levels.

Thanks for the reply. I don't ahve high blood pressure nor am I taking any meds. It must refer to my having had elevated BP right before the exam.

Thanks again... K.

Re: Controlled hypertension?

Ken,

No alas it cannot mean what you say.
It really DOES mean that you are on medication that is controlling a previously diagnosed hypertension. They would never use the phrase "controlled hypertension" to describe a situation where BP resolves by relaxing for a while during an appointment,..at least not correctly.

It sounds like they may have mixed up your chart or your doctor was doing some interesting drugs when he examined you. Or else just not listening to you...a shock.

Mixed up chart? Maybe

Doctor on drugs? Ha! If you met this guy you'd know how funny that is!

Not listening? A very distinct possibility! Considering he missed or got wrong several things in his narrative report of our first appointment.

Thanks again!

K.
