stress test

hi
I recently had an ultrasound followed by a stress test would this be classed as an echo stress test or do they have to be conducted together. would this be classed as a good combination of tests to rule out most problems. I also had a 24 hour monitor the same day which of course caught next to nothing.

Re: stress test

I believe on the echo test they will do the ultasound before and then again after the stress test, at least thats the way the thallium test works.

My stress test had a few steps to complete. There was a pretest that evaluates one's cardio vascular system at rest with an EKG for heart rate, rhythm, etc.

With an injection of an identifiable substance it is traced as it is distributed through the heart tissues while exercising. The objective is to observe any vessel blockage, poor circulation, etc. When the the test is completed or stopped there is an observation how quickly one's vascular system returns to normal while resting.

It is a good test for cardiovascular blockage that may be causing pain, shortness of breath, etc. It could help dx a rhythm disorder if an episode happens during the test.

Re: stress test

Of course, I don't your reason for having the stress test, etc., but it sounds as if you came through it with flying colors! Did you ask them to send you the results of your test? I also have had these tests, and if something is wrong, the doctors usually would advise you that there was a problem.
Good luck!

Re: stress test

It sounds from your original post like you had a resting ultrasound and then a normal stress test. My doctor has me do the series of tests Kenkeith described at least once a year depending on what changes, and the use of a dye gives him a much better look at what's happening in the heart. If your test was more routine, then the additional steps might not be useful.
