heart flutters, please help - Heart Disorders Message Board

hi i have recently developed a heart flutter. sometimes it feels like my heart is leaping in my chest.

i went to a dr recently, because my asthma worsened after moving to a city with poor air quality.

i did not tell him about my heart, because i didnt want to overload the dr with complaints. he was a new dr.

i was wondering if my asthma could be causing these heart flutters.

a little background about me:

i am very athletic and exercise regularly. i have noticed that the flutters happen at the gym and after.

i have also noticed something like icepick headaches. i have passed out. and i have had my vision disturbed.

also, i am on birth control pills for a hormone problem that was never diagnosed and has been dismissed by drs i have gone to. they tell me to just stay on the bcps if it is working. i believe i have a very bad problem, maybe endometriosis because the pain was extreme. so i have been on these bcps for almost 10 yrs. i am not happy about taking bcps, because i would like to get pregnant, but i have no other option to control my pain, which no one has been able to help determine, but is very excruciating.

my point is that, im on the bcps, which i hear is not good for your blood.

i cant go to the dr because i just became uninsured very recently. i was just wondering what some peoples opinions of this are.

is it my asthma? could the bcps be clotting my blood?

my grandparents had chronic heart disease? is it possible to get it at age 30?

I used to have this problem... but corrected it with diet change.

I've had this for years... and once at the Dr office I got lucky, it was happening while I was there. I was able to get someone to listen to it as it was happening.

This is what I would feel... It would feel like my heart stopped for about 5 seconds... then I would get a large hard heart beat... kinda felt like taking a large gulp of water. Heart felt as if pumping a large gulp of blood.

I was getting micro beats... I would get 3 very rapid heart beats within a second or so... this was the fluttering feeling in my chest, the gulp feeling was the blood backing up from the pressure of the very fast beats, then the pause (or skip) was the hearts normal time for 3 beats... results in the same pulse per minute.

I eliminated all sources of caffine.. Coffee, Tea (with caffine), chocolate. Through experimenting I found that some BBQ sauces, BBQ chips also caused this to happen with me. Caffine withdrawls causes headaches for about 2 weeks (it is an addictive substance).

I have learned how much caffine and chips I can get away with over the years. Doc says this type of skipped beat is not harmful and many people have it.

I hope this helps.. I was Soooo releived when I learned that I have the power to eliminate this issue from my life.

Well I Can Tell You That I Have The Flutters And Skiped Beats That Are Called Pvc's An Pac's Mine Stared At Age 18,im 33 Now Still Have Them, Strees Seems To Be The Maine Cause,but They Do Tend To Have A Mind Of There Own.and Ive Always Been In Good Shape,i Competed In Bodybuilding For Almost 8 Years,i Had Them Then, And I Still Have Them Now.they Are Just Mostly Bothersome And Will Not Hurt You.hope This Helps

Are you taking any medication for your asthma? I think that could also affect your heart rate but don't know for sure. You really should talk to your Doctor about it. I too have endometriosis and was told that BCP are the only thing to keep it at bay, however, I also had surgery to remove the endometriosis and that basically cured me! I haven't taken th BCP for years and havn't had an issue with the Endo for almost 10years now. It took seeing 6 doctors before finding the one who was willing to actually help me. I have also seen 2 Cardiologists for my heart issues and found a wonderful Doctor. I encourage you to seek out the one who satisfies your concerns. There are really great Doctors out there that will listen and help! I'll be thinking of you and hope you get things worked out.
