Cardiac Rehab

Has anyone been to one?
Is it beneficial?
Will it help out with my EF?
I asked my doctor to refer me to one and they should be calling me but im going to switch doctors as my doctor doesnt even pay attention to me or treat me aggresively since my initial diagnosis the day after xmas. I really think this was because of a virus a few months ago that i never went to the DR about as 6 months ago i had no problems on an EKG.
Thanks for your help.
Will

Re: Cardiac Rehab

Since it is established that exercise will improve your ejection fraction, a rehab program will definitely help in guiding you as to the proper exercises you should do. When you join a rehab program, you will be under the care of exercise physiologists and/or registered nurse where you will be monitored while you perform certain exercises on a treadmill or other exercise equipment.

The exercises will increase in intensity based on your progress. Since you are continuously monitored and in a hospital setting among other rehab patients, you will have much more confidence in doing those exercises without being worried as to whether you are doing too much or too little and will gradually get over your anxiety about the whole process.

In addition, you will be consulted on other lifestyle changes that are needed to be done in addition to the exercise, for example, usually you will meet with a nutritionist to discuss the proper diet that you need to follow which is very important in improving your condition. Stress management is also important and being in a group setting among other patients will help in that aspect.

I suggest that you do an intensive research on your condition. There is a wealth of information on the internet in addition to the message boards. Google any subject that pertains to your condition ( CHF or cardiomyopathy)and you will have tons of information at your fingertips. The more you know about your condition, the better you will be able to discuss this with your doctors and help you get the best treatment without feeling totally dependent on them to manage your case. Best of luck

Re: Cardiac Rehab

I feel that I benefitted from cardiac rehab but I would caution that it needs to be taken seriously. In my group there were four or five men who spent a good deal of time standing around talking.... and they had a standing date to go out for coffee and Krispy Kremes after each session.
.
I worked hard since my wife told me that if I died on her she would not take me on our planned trip to Scotland... and I just love single-malt.
.
One note, as soon as you have learned as much as you need to manage your own continuing food and exercise regimen, check out and get a membership in a health club. It's a lot less expensive and makes your schedule flexible.
