i am new to this board. I am 48 years old. I had an echo done and it showed some thickening of the heart wall. Is that considered normal as you get older? I have 2 small leaks in the mitral valve and tricuspid valve also. Thank you for your info. I am worried.
Wall thickening could be related to the aging process and a small leakage shouldn't be a problem.
Why did you have an echo test? Any symptoms and what is your EF rating (measurement of cardiac output)? If the walls are enlarged, it would compromise chamber size and reduce cardiac output with each heart beat. Do you have a copy of the echo results?
I wouldn't worry about it at all. unless your having problems.
I'm 27 have three leaky valves, enlarged heart, was in hospital three times with heart problems-last time i had a resting heart rate of 170+ and never get an answer. So i try not to worry, but for me it's hard.
i have thick walls and still get an EF of 50-55%
