21 Year old Bodybuilder with heart questions.

Alright for those of you who remember me I was having some blood pressure /arrythmia and anxiety problems back in the begining of the year. Everythign Is great now ive controlled everything my self, no more high B/p and the palps are very rare. Ive noticed that when Im working out I really have to start slow and get my blood flowing or my heart just POUNDS. It feels like it needs to be pumping faster because of my pace but instead it just pounds very noticably, and stays closer to my resting heart rate then my desired exercise rate. It comes up eventually tho, but Ive also noticed that after a heavy set if I go to set the weights down or bend over I flutter. I dont freak out like I used to it just happens and its over. But its damn annoying, I gotta breathe like a madman while im bending over to prevent it. I also noticed i palpitate when im posing- flexing and holding my breath- Or just holding my breath in general. Swimming isnt fun anymore because of this (n) Whats the deal? And Why the hell cant I take whey protein supplements anymore? I feel great for a few days but anymore than a few shakes a day after 2-3 days im fluttering again. SO STRESSSSSSSSSED!!!!!!!!!

I cant take any multi vitamins of any kind either, my best bet is staying with a calcium, magnesium, zinc tab. They help me sleep better I think. Could it be the ASPARTAME in the protein drinks? What is it thats changed? The Docs dont know, I used to be able to take caffeine and any supplements I wanted. Just for your info, I was on Arginine AKG and Creatine for about 2 years

Re: 21 Year old Bodybuilder with heart questions.

rcm,

That inflate and force to bulge the chest is called the VALSALVA movement and it markedly increases your blood pressure while doing it. This presents the heart with a HUGE pressure head to pump agains and forces POWERFUL contractions. If you have an aneurism, this is the time it will burst and if you have a rhythm irregularity, this is when it will show up.

Aspartame will have no effect on this but caffeine probably would make the situation worse.

The shopworn advice is to always BREATHE out on extreme exertion. I KNOW this makes a pose less impressive and a heavy bench press less likely but it's probably good advice. NEVER hold your breath during an exertion...it takes practice becasue it is counterintuitive.

I fight the same thing with a heavy declined bench press. My normal tendency is to hold my breath but if I do I get up my face is beet red and my head is swimming. Breathing out during the press makes for less redness and dizziness but the lift is never very good...I must use lower weights.

THe ultimate nigthtmare with a super VALSALVA is to blow a hemorrhagic stroke!

Re: 21 Year old Bodybuilder with heart questions.

Lenin, thanks for your reply. I am aware of the vasalva manuever but it does not give me any problems. Like I said before it just seems like my heart doesnt want to speed up as quickly as it seems like its supposed to when i start exercising. How about the fluttering when I bend forward after a heavy set?

Define "fluttering." It has a very specific meaning as a heart irregularity but that condition makes it impossible for ANYONE to continue with a workout.
Do you mean "feel faint or dizzy?"
