High Heart Rate - Heart Disorders Message Board

Hi all!

I've posted here before but have a quick question I thought some of you might know. Went to the ER the other night - had been having headaches, dizziness, sort of just felt out of it and pounding heart beats after standing and sometimes when just lying down. The doctor did a test on my bp - one while lying, one while sitting, ond while standing. After I stood up it went up 40 beats higher - bp never got high though. She said she wasn't sure what caused it.

My question is one: can stress cause these symptoms?

two: what's a normal increase in heart rate after standing?

Ok - just one more promise!

- Should I see my regular doc or should I see a cardio? I've had work ups about four years ago - echograms, stress tests, monitors, ultrasounds . . . they found nothing. Wasn't having exact same symptoms then - but should these tests be repreformed or just a at home monitor?

Thanks for all your help guys! I'm only 22 and really have no one to ask these questions. I'm pretty high stress. Hubby and I have three kids. I feel like a nerve basket!

Stress can cause a lot of problems. I don't know that it should cause your heart rate to go up just because you stand up. I have very fast heart rates that go 240+ at times, but I don't believe that mine changes much at all when I stand up. Things can change over the years and perhaps your dr can find something now that they couldn't before. That is a possibility. Sometimes things can be hard to figure out, keep a journal of when things happen, what you were doing, how long you felt that way, and how you physically felt(symptoims to). It can't hurt to do that, plus it may help your dr figure something out or atleast help the dr to rule out your heart and look for another health issue that may be causing this. It certainly couldn't hurt to go back to the cardio dr and let he/she take a look. Best of wishes!

Try to do a search on POTS...and see if you can relate to the symptoms described

Thanks. I will check that out. I've read a little about it - and it sounds very similar. Is this something serious? Or is it just usually bothersome?

I have it and wastold its not dangerous but extremely debilitating...
