Diagnosed with LVH

I am 29 years old, smoke and a little over weight for three years. I have low blood pressure. Matter of fact they gave me fludrocortizone and pindolol about two months ago for this when I had no problems from it. Now I have had Xray at er and they said my heart was fine two months ago. Now I recently went to doctor and they say I have a murmur and want to do echo. Oh and multiple Ekgs that they said were fine. Now they say I have Borderline LVH. I do not think I live but so healthy but with this little time I have spent doing things that might not be that good for you, I don't think that this should have happened. I have seen on here people of all ages get this usually from high blood pressure. Anyone have chest pains from murmur or LVH cause I sometimes have chest pains. I was just wondering. I plan on making some lifestyle changes soon. And does anyone know if you take medication to raise blood pressure and are on it at the time of echo this could make heart look different.
Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

There are two issues: A heart murmur could (but often not) indicate heart valve insufficiency (doesn't prevent abnormal back flow of blood). The other issue is left ventricle hypertrophy.

For some insight on LVH, it can be an increase in chamber size (dilated) and/or heart wall thickness. Good for a reference, an echo enables and records calculations for heart wall thickness and chamber size after filling and after contraction. Thick walls will lose some flexibiliy and not adequately fill. An oversized chamber can lose contractility and pump less blood to meet the body's demand. LVD can cause chest pains, and usually happens when the demand for more oxygen during exertion.

A murmur, if serious, can also cause ischemia (lack of blood flow to heart).

Your blood pressure will not effect an echo result, but medication can cause an EKG artefact (wave produced or changed by chemicals), and not pathological and inocuous.

It is possible heart size can increase rapidly from abuse, disease, etc...High blood pressure can and usually damages blood vessels over a relatively long time, and if very high can burst a weak vessel. Very often there are no symptoms with high bp and low bp can cause dizziness and fainting.

Re: Diagnosed with LVH

Thanks for the info. I went to ER yesterday and they did chest Xray again. Siad my heart looked normal from that. They have done most every blood work you can think of. Everything is normal. I do have RH factor in my blood. Sometimes this is in healthy or diseased people but they say I do not have Rhuematoid Arthritis. I would like to know how accurate is an Echo. When I was pegnant with my little girl, three different people said her chest looked small. She came out normal and healthy. Sometimes I think if you get things done they automatically assume worst. I am going to cardiologist for this. Hopefully have some answers soon. Any questions I should ask my doctor about this. I don't know much about it.
Lisa
