Can a fever cause heartrate to be increased?

I have been sick with a virus for 3 days, and am running a fever from low grade to 101.4. My heartrate is running in the 90's while sitting. When I get up to do anything it is up about 100 to 106 sometimes. This has been going on for the whole course of this thing. I wake up at night and it is around 100. I have an upper respiratory thing, chest congestion and head congestion! I do have high blood pressure about 130/88 or so and am on BP meds. I don't mean to sound stupid, but it is a little concerning to me, or is this a normal body response to being sick.

thanks for any replies,
Shonks 5

They say that illness causes our BP to rise when we are sick sometimes. I think the heart rate would have to increase in order for our bp to increase, unless one of a multitude of other possibilities were occurring .

Yes it does --- it is because when you are sick, your SedRate goes up, thus increasing your pulse

Hope you feel better!

When I get sick I notice an increase in both heartrate and PVC's. Always gets me a little on edge but usually passes after a few days.

Re: Can a fever cause heartrate to be increased?

Thanks so much for the feed back, I was starting to get a little worried! I'll rest a little easier now! Hope you all stay well, this nasty virus is working its way through my family no matter how much hand washing and wipe downs with antibacterial wipes we do!

Thanks again,
