| EF of 50% and anesthesia.. any advice?
Hello everyone. I was diagnosed with post-partum cardiomyopathy on Oct 19, 2007. I had an EF of 35%. I went on Metoprolol & Lisenoprol, started a healthy low-sodium diet, and within a few weeks started getting up more so my heart could work out a little. Well, 2 months later amazingly, I got an echo & my EF was up to 50%. I have been warned by my cardiologists not to get pregnant again. They say it's not an option, or I will go down hill. I have agreed, no more babies. And I'm fine with that. They suggest getting my tubes tied. I don't want to do birth control since it may have side effects to the heart, blood clots, or risk of infection. I think a tubal is a quick solution that will take care of the problem forever. However, I'm afraid to go under anesthesia with my condition. I'm afraid I won't wake up!! Is that reasonable? Or is it safe to go under anesthesia with an EF of 50%? My heart is no longer dilated, back down to normal size ranges.. and my doc said that the function of 50% can be considered normal for some girls my age. I still continue to watch my sodium though. I am doing everything right, that I know of. I want to continue to get better & I know I can't have another child, bottom line. Does anyone know if it's safe for me to go under anesthesia or should I stay away?
