My husbands dr is recommending he take 50mg toprol xl.
He is wondering what a person does about colds, and sinus problems while on this? It looks like there is so little you can take?
Teri
Not that bad.
Toprol lowers BP, the decongestant raises is.
Net will still be some lowering and then all will go back to normal after the cold has passed in a week and the decongestants are discontinued.
Thanks for your input. I guess that is his main concern about taking these. Other than the tiredness and it sounds like that goes away after awhile? He is so tired now, that he couldn't imagine it getting worse. But I think if his heart is working properly he wouldn't be this tired, now.
Thanks again.
He can still take cold medicines he just needs to avoid cold medicines that have the letter d after it. It is the decongestant that causes the problem.
I have bad allergies and require Decongesgest. My Doc. is aware of that. I took my actifed and atenolol last Friday before I went to have a BP check at her office. My BP was fine. I believe if a D is needed you should run it by your Doc. They may have to change your dose of meds. if it affects your BP.
Thanks again for the help. We went to his first cardiac appointment today, and the dr. said he should stay away from decongestants, but antihistamines and nose sprays were okay. He had EKG and EEG, today, and both looked good. They are doing the angiogram on Tues. to see where the blockage might be. But think he might have taken care of things early. Thanks again for your input.
Thanks again all. We found out today he has to have a quadruple bypass. He goes in tommorow at 11:00. Surgery on Thurs morning. He is very nervous, but they say his heart has no damage and is pumping blood well. Thanks again,
Teri
