BP Monitor Showing Irregular Heart Beat Symbol - Heart Disorders Message Board

My bp is elevated the past few days. I want to believe it's due to stress that's going on. But along with that the Irregular Heart Beat symbol on my machine goes on every time I take my blood pressure. Is this cause for alarm?

It is probaly your high b/p causing it
however ask your doctor to know for sure
can you feel it happen?

Hi! No I really can't feel it happening. It happened for just a day. I am okay today. I was very stressed for the past week and I'm wondering if that is/was the cause. My blood pressure was elevated but it's come back to just about normal now without the monitor showing that symbol. I was terrified yesterday but much calmer today. Oh the joys!

What is your heart rate during this? Some BP monitors are touchy and even tachycardia can mess up the reading. I often have mine error - I suspect there may be some pvcs as I usually have strong palpitations at the time but not always tachycardia.

If you're concerned you can ask your doctor for an EKG or better yet, a holter monitor.

My BP monitor manual says that this symbol will go off if it detects 2 or more irregular beats during the reading. I find that mine will go off falsely if I move, talk, etc. Especially my cordless wrist monitor. If I'm not folloowing the instructions excatly and sitting still, holding my elbow, not talking, etc then the heart symbol shows up.
