Ejection fraction 35%

My husband had a heart attack the end of April-no stents needed. Damage was to the "back" of heart. Ejection fraction 35%. He has done extremely well diet wise, lost 43 lbs--no salt He had a follow up Echo last week , we were to get results today, but his doctor unavailable, clinic had another MD read results but then would not tell us- said husbands own doctor should explain results... of course husband is extremely upset to wait all weekend to see Dr. on Monday. Does anyone know why this follow up Echo is done and what do they look for and hope to find? Does damage ever improve? Cardiac rehab thought he might need stent???? this was two months ago.

Re: Ejection fraction 35%

Hi,
When you say "a follow up echo" do you mean he has already had one?
Or is this the first one he has had?

Re: Ejection fraction 35%

yes he had one in the hospital the day after the heart attack- I guess that is when they gave the 35 ejection fraction number.

Re: Ejection fraction 35%

There are many reasons for doing a follow up Echo.
As frustrating as all this can be, your best bet is to put it out of your mind until you talk to your doctor.
Which would be tomorrow right?
I have gone through many tests and re-tests this year. Each time I can't help but wonder what they aren't telling me.

Good luck and keep us up to date.

Dan
