hi, I have been put on coreg two weeks ago and have gained a lot of wt also have extreme swelling of feet and body. I spoke to the dr regaarding this aand he prescribed furosimide 20mg. once a day. I know its the coreg and I want to get off of it how can I do that? I have atrial fibrillation and hbp not to mention a heart block so i am very cautious as to how I handle my medication. I am also petrified at the same time. it is ruining my life.Any advice you all can give me would be greatly appreciated. Laurie

Re: coreg

How much Coreg are you taking?

Perhaps your doctor could reduce the dose? Or possibly splitting it to twice a day would help? If not, perhaps a different medication. There are many different choices of medications.

I am on 6.25mg Coreg, twice a day. When I took it once a day, I experienced breathing problems, but I am not 100% sure it was the Coreg.

For me, Coreg was effective at 3.125mg, once per day, but it is more effective at the current higher dose. Of course, we are all somewhat different in how we react to medications.

Good luck!

Hi Laurie. I've been on Coreg for almost two years and it has NEVER caused swelling. I am now on Coreg 40 mg. The dosage has varied from time to time and that is from talking w/cardiologist and trusting that he/she knows what they're talking about. At times I've requested a med change and after many questions the dr may or may not agree w/me. They always listen and then tell me why or why not they would make a change. Please calm down and trust your doctor. They were educated for many years to do what they do and they are professionals. If you ALWAYS second guess them, you'll make yourself crazy and your condition worse.

I'm sure you were also prescribed Potassium w/Flourosemide, so be sure to take it at the same time as Flourosemide pulls water & potassium out of your body fast.

I always make a list of the questions I have for my cardiologist as they are so busy and I want to make the most of the short time I have at an appt. It also helps to get your questions and concerns down on paper--it stops them from swirling around in your head. Try to relax. It takes a while to understand what's happening when you're hit with an illness. Take your time and take care.
