Question Extra Beats

Hi Everyone,
I just need some reassurance. I am 35 years old and I do suffer from pretty bad anxiety. It is usually controlled but has been pretty bad lately I think because I came off birth control pills in October after 10 years. Anyway, I do focus a lot on my heart and have since I was around 20 although I had managed to keep it under control for a while. About a week ago, I was laying in bed and randomly felt my pulse, I then noticed that I had two rapid beats then pause, then two rapid beats, then pause then my heart went back to just beat, beat, beat. This has happened in slightly different variations every night since. About a year ago, I had a full cardiac workup with an ekg, echo, stress test, and stress echo...everything fine just some minor leaky valves. I had also had an echo done back when I was around 20 and no issues. I know that it is probably the hormones and/anxiety but i am having trouble shaking it...I am wondering if I need further testing? Can someone please talk me off the ledge or give some guidance?
Are these considered palpitations? I just don't know because when I had my tests done I was not experiences these weird beats.

Re: Extra Beats

I am not sure what they are. I just recently was treated for atrial fibrillation. That is where the top part of the heart doesn't beat right. It sort of quivers. It isn't fatal but can have some side effects. Mine were tiredness and short of breath. I din't even know I had it until my doctor wanted me to have a check up. I guess what I am trying to say is that not all health issues with the heart are deadly. Hormones definitely play a part. So check with your dr. if you are not feeling better. I don't come to this sight often so if you reply I probably won't get it. Godbless

Re: Extra Beats

These are probably PVC's. They can be seen on an EKG easily and are not harmful. However, I would see your doctor and he will probably order up an EKG or a holtor monitor. I have these and they are annoying. I just have to learn to live with them. They are very common. But see your doctor just to make sure. Good luck.

Re: Extra Beats

Hi,
This sounds to me like ectopic heart beats which is fairly common but should not be ignored. you should see your G.P. and ask to be referred to a cardiologist. the probable outcome is you will be given beta blockers which will regulate ectopic and irregular heart beats. good luck and good health

Re: Extra Beats

Hi there your story is very similar to mine. Im 35 and suffer from ectopics the same as you. so i know how you feel, somedays are worse than others and the anxiety that you get due to these ectopics is worse that than the ectopics themselves almost. very hard to keep a grip of things when your physical health feels bad. I have just recently made an appointment to see specialist to see if than can do anything to stop them permanantly so i dont have to experience an more anxiety.
