Heart worries

Hi, I am new to this board. I have been having palpitations and PVC"S for a couple of months now. I have never had these problems before. I went to the Dr and he did a EKG but found nothing. He gave me a 24 hour monitor to wear and that's when they found the irregular beats. They called and told me it was not normal and I needed to see my DR and a cardiologist I went to my pcp and he gave me metoprolol. I have been taking it and have cut out caffiene, but I still have it. My heart beats really fast at night when I am laying down. It is not as bad during the day. I went to a cardiologist today, and she did EKG and was not at all concerned. She says it doesn't beat differently at night, but I know it does. I finally got her to reluctantly schedule a ultrasound, but she didn't want to. My question is, could it be MVP and not be heard on seen on EKG? She thinks it is anxiety and panic attacks.Thanks.

Re: Heart worries

How fast is your heart beating? If it's 140 or over it's an SVT in which case your would want to see and electrophysiologist. If it is 100 or 110 then it could be anxiety. I had AVNRT (got an ablation that hopefully cured it recently) but my heart was 180 or 200 beats a minute and you will see some abnormalities on an EKG if you have AVNRT it's an extra pathway. Also, are you anxious? Jittery? Or calm? I was never upset or anxious when I had my SVT's at all because I knew the problem was simply my heart beating too fast and it wasn't due to me being anxious or upset. If the EKG is OK and you are 90 - 120 beats a minute I would say anxiety is probably possible. Anxiety won't make your heart go 180 though. That's an SVT. Also, what leads up to the fast heart rate is key. If you are anxious or worried, that is more likely anxiety. Calm at least until it goes fast and over 140 beats a minute, that's SVT. Best Wishes.
