fast heart rate from just moving

I am a 45 year old female who is overweight at 5'2" 185 and do not exercise. Have had 225 cholesterol with high bad and low good for years and years. Can't take statins due to pain. I don't just sit on the couch all day but between work, taking care of the house and all my daughter's activities its all I do. No walking, exercising, etc.

Anyway I have been out of shape for some time but in recent months I feel much more out of breath doing everyday things like the laundry. Went to the hospital and blood pressure, ekg, blood tests (thyroid, potassium, virus, etc) and echo where all normal however just going up and down the steps with laundry brings my heart rate easily to 145 (not sure how high it would go if i did more) and I need to rest a minute. Just walking around the house brings me to 120, rolling over in bed to 110. The one good thing is that it goes right back down under 100 within a minute of stopping. My resting rate is usually around 84. To me this all seems excessive for just being out of shape but I thought maybe someone here might have some experience that might help me determine what it is. So afraid that it is a blockage or something!!!! Anyone have any advice or thoughts? Any other possibilies of what might cause it? Thanks everyone!!

Re: fast heart rate from just moving

Hello,

Healthy eating, exercise, good sleep and keeping the pounds off.
Not always so easy to get started with I know. I don't know and
can't say if your symptoms are excessive for just being out of shape.
I do know though there is the possibility.

Good to hear your tests at the hospital showed normal.

How is your stress level these days?
How about your caffiene and salt intake?
How much water (the hated question) do you drink daily?
This would not include juices and other drinks.

Just a few to start with for conversation sake.

Also you always have the option to speak with your doctor
about seeing a specialist to put your concerns to otherwise.
You mentioned being concerned about a blockage etc.....I
can see this is stressful for you.

Big Hugs,

Janaly

p.s. How about your actual blood pressure readings? Do
you or your doctor have a foundation for what normal
is for you?

There are doctor perscribed treadmill stress tests also
which I have had before to help determine some concerns.
Have you ever had one of those?

Re: fast heart rate from just moving

Thanks Janaly. I really appreciate any ideas you might have. My blood pressure has always been 120/70 and still is. I don't drink any water, my sleep is terrible and I do get pretty stressed. I do have a cup of coffee in the morning but that is it (switched to decaf now). I did talk to a cardiologist and he has no ideas yet so he is giving me a nuclear stress test next week.

The steps are the worst, walking is not as bad but I can get up to 130 pretty quick, steps are more like 145.

I hope it is my conditioning because this is enough kick in the butt to get me moving.

Hi ya again,

The nuclear stress test should be very helpful! Good for you!

Your blood pressure is a good safe reading. Good for you again!

Switching to decaf coffee. Good for you!

I do not prefer water either. Am working hard though at improved
eating habits and weight loss.~ I want to lose 20 pounds and am
working on it. Also am increasing my water intake.

I have had life long bouts of insomnia. When I am tired and have
not had a good nights sleep my anxiety level can increase and my
heartrate as well. Also I have good loads of stress in my life that
I continually work with and at to improve. Just like so many other
folks. Managing stress...........that is a big challenge for some of
us.

Life can be difficult at times can't it! Ugh.

Also though lots of things to make it better too! Yeh

Drink water even if it you hate to ok! Be regular and consistant.

Keep up the good work and keep plugging away at things like
you are. That is all any of us can do....just keep pressing on.

You sound knowledgeable and have an invested concern in
your health, so I think you are off to a great start right now
with resolving your concerns. Good for you!

Please keep in touch on your thread ok.....I am very interested
in how things unfold for you.

p.s. You also might enjoy starting a blog of your own here on
this forum (sort of like a diary) where you can share your feelings
and thoughts and just sort of vent on your own about health or
medically related things.

Warmly,

Janaly

Re: fast heart rate from just moving

Another thought?

Are you on any medications that you might be having side effects
too? Just a long shot question?

Like yourself I cannot tolerate Statins and therefore have not taken
them in years.

Also just for chatting sake etc....my resting heartrate has always
been (for years) a reading of 88. When my weight is higher and my
exercise null and my stress high, well than in my case my reading
upon exertion are a little higher.

Well since you are healthy according to you doctor than it has to be your lifestyle. Not excersing is bad and being over weight doesnt help. I would suggest making an effort to start excersing and eating healthier so your curent health problems go away and you feel better. Good luck

Wink Re: fast heart rate from just moving

mzNOTW, completely agree that I need to get moving. There is no doubt about it and this scare should be enough to get me going.

I guess my concern is that it seems a little excessive for just going up a flight of stairs or walking around (120-145). I feel like it might be something else.

Also with the nice weather coming we have so many things planned, NYC and a yankees game with my friends this weekend, etc. I hate to be afraid to do them since they can't fit me in for a stress test until next week. I am terrified to go on the trip and do all the walking and climbing if something is actually more wrong than deconditioning. I guess the anxiety of it all isn't helping.

Re: fast heart rate from just moving

That sounds like a plan. Anxiety can be very annoying! So I wouldnt be worrying about starting to get moving or work ect. If you think its something more look into pre cordinal catch syndrome. Its not life threatening but a pain in the butt. Check it out. Its usually in teens and young adults(20's). Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: fast heart rate from just moving

Hi tyboyz,

I am going through something very similar and I think it may break down to anxiety. Let me explain. A few months back I had an episode at the gym where I had Tachy for 10 minutes. I became completely obsessed with my heart and my pulse rate. The odd thing is the more I concentrated on it, and the more I worried, the higher it would get. I would literally have an "episode" of racing heart just walking around or stepping on a stair. My walking pulse was 110 to 115.

I am back to exercising but I have found that my pulse hits 140 or 150 climbing stairs if I am having a worrying day like today (worrying about blockage) although the cardiologist and every test says I am normal.

When I am not focusing on heart disorders and pulse, my walking pulse is in the 80's and up stairs it may hit 120 or 140 and I am in shape and 33!

Our pulse is funny and I think obsessive worrying and checking causes us to have high pulses. I would bet that if you stop worrying, checking and researching it would drop, or maybe it would stay the same but that could be completely normal.

Regarding blockage, I have the same questions, but the thing is panic mimics heart disorders. Before my echo results I literally almost fainted going to my car, throwing PVC's left and right. The results were excellent and guess what, I recovered.

Also you may be asking, is it a blockage? Some people could have a blockage and experience zero symptoms and others have pain or shortness of breath. I do know first hand though that shortness of breath can absolutely be panic.

I hope this helps, and god bless. Get Checked. Get Well.
Sean
