Marfan's Syndrome and Recreational Drug Use

My grandson recently diagnosed with Marfan's Syndrome also enjoys "recreational drugs" and alcohol with his parents. He is 17. How does this affect Marfan's Syndrome? He was just diagnosed and has not seen a cardiologist yet. Any response will be helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Marfan's Syndrome and Recreational Drug Use

Do you remember the case of the famous college basketball player who died 3-4 days after being the #1 draft choice and was drafted by the Celtics. Len something. He went out and celebrated by using cocaine and his heart quit on him.....supposedly the first time he used it....and he had Marfan's.

People with Marfans have to watch their hearts very carefully. He shouldn't be drinking or using any recreational drugs until he knows just how bad his heart is and how vulnerable.

But since mom and dad use them, good luck getting him to not use them.

I guess when he finds out there is a very high chance of dropping down dead while using drugs with his condition he'll stop if he's sensible.
