my husband has been having what he calls a sore muscles on the left side of his heart......
he is thinking that he pulled a muscle ---- but i am thinking that could it be more then that and possibly a heart problem????????

When does he get the pain?
What is he doing when the pain comes?
Does it go when he rests?

We need a bit more info to try and answer your qusetion.

The pain seems to go when he rests--when he is doing things where he is using his strength thats when I seem to notice things bothering him----- he is also having shortness of breath which the dr seems to think that it is his lungs.....
he is having allot of health issues he is also an active alcoholic so this may be totally complicating things--he was put on an inhaler that is used to treat copd--- because the other one that is used to treat asthma wasnt strong enough---
he has allot of things going on...
he also has had a hoarse voice for some time.. it tends to come and go....

It's really hard to tell but shortness of breath and chest pain on exertion which subsides during rest could be symptoms of angina.
Does he have a family history of heart disease?

The fastest way to find out would be to attend ER complaining of chest pain, they will tell you if it's his heart or not.
