Echo results show Severe MR

My local cardiologist told me I have severe mitral regurgitation and my heart shows evidence of a past silent heart attack. He can't perform the surgery to repair or replace the valve. Will have to wait until monday when he will call Duke hospital in North Carolina so I can come in. I am 44 years old. In the meantime he put me on Diovan 160mg twice a day, Carvedilol 6.25mg, Furosemide 20mg and spironolactone 25mg. What kind of surgery will I be needing and how long until I return to normal life and be able to work again? I was not having major symptoms but went to the doctors because of irregular heartbeats and slight fatigue.
