Unhappy Urgent Concern

So three days ago I went to a clinic for what a thought was the flu expecting some antibiotics and a merry good day. I had seriously bad headache on my forehead and behind my eyes with this ringing in my ears; a sore throat; achy upper back and lower neck pain; and this pressure around the left side of my chest. The chest pain became more severe with walking and even walking up a flight of stairs I feel like I'm about to die and can't breathe. The clinic doctor did the usual work up with the throat culture and chest x-ray coming back negative. She said she was still concerned so ordered an EKG. The nurse came in and did one said it was abnormal; came back with the doctor who did another one and tried her best to look normal while she told me my heart wasn't getting any oxygen. I thought 'well that makes sense' and was whisked away in an ambulance.

The E.R. was packed and it took a while for me to be seen but after they noticed me I was bombarded by diff personnel taking a bunch of tests. My blood pressure was 132 over 84 with a pulse rate of 101. I should also say that I was not panicked- I was actually very tired and lethargic. Then they hooked me up to an I.V. and abandoned me for five hours.

The E.R. doctor finally comes back does another EKG which he says is normal, says the whole thing was probably a strep infection and that the clinic doctor shouldn't have worried me. Than he gave me shot in my butt which he said would clear it all up within 24 hours and sent me on my way. Its been almost 72 hours now and I'm laying in bed with the same chest pains and difficulty breathing. My aunt in a nurse and she took my pulse rate today and it was 98- my pulse rate has never gone above 60 which I was told was normal for athletes. Idk what to do as that is the closest e.r. to me and i don't feel like going back to be sent away again and I really cannot afford it. But if I need to I will. Suggestions?

Re: Urgent Concern

Did they do any blood work on you? Seems pretty weird one EKG is good, the other is abnormal...not making sense to me, especially since they whisked you away in an ambulance. Were you seen just by the ER Dr. or did a Cardiologist see you? IMO you need a good blood work up to see what is going on, especially since you said your having breathing problems.

Also don't rely on an EKG for a proper diagnoses of any heart problem, as you need to have your Troponin levels checked and a stress test to see if there is anything wrong with the heart. My husband just had slight chest pressure and a bit of shortness of breath when I took him to the ER. They kept him overnight to do a stress test the next day. During the night his Troponin levels went up indicating a problem so they skipped the stress test and did an Angioplasty and found a blocked artery. Dr. told us had we waited another week he would have had a full blown heart attack.

Don't mess around with labored breathing or chest pressure, make an appt. with a Cardio. Dr. and get the right tests done.

Best of wishes...JJ...

Re: Urgent Concern

An infection of the respiratory system will raise the heart rate due to the decreased oxygen level with each heartbeat. Also, one's termperature would be over 100 with an infection.
