What is normal heart rate for older person?

66 years old. Heart rate resting is in 50's. Never been in 50's that I can remember until just a few weeks. Doesn't stay there during the day. Concerned that all of a sudden resting heart rate in 50's and I am not an athlete by any means. Used to always be resting 70 to 80. Is it normal for resting heart rate to change so much? Or should I get it checked out. Told my dr. and she wasn't concerned but I didn't get to tell her all details. Thanks for any help.

Re: What is normal heart rate for older person?

ouch, no! lol. When I do exercise it goes up to a normal beat, around 110. It's just weird that in my "old age" (don't feel old) my heart rate resting is so low. I hope it doesn't get any lower, I go around cold when it's in the 50's, besides being worrisome. It's just the change of the heart rate that has me worried, blood pressure is normal. i had heart palpitations once, don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. But no, I don't exercise everyday.

Re: What is normal heart rate for older person?

Hi it does seem a bit slow for that age and exercise, a bit bradycardic. A heart specialist could be seen. A daily walk might be good to tolerance.

Normally in younger people the heart rate is 60-80 and as a person ages it goes a bit faster. (maybe from lack of exercise in many cases).
