Heprin shots

Can someone help me does anyone know about heprin shots prior to aortic valve surgery? My dad has mild congestive heart failure and needs to have the aortic valve replaced. He's in the hosiptal and is scheduled for surgery on Thursday. I'm really worried he's also a diabetic and coughing and wheezing alot.

I really appreciate any help in this we're unsure of side effects and so forth?

Thanks so much

Re: Heprin shots

Have you been prescribed them? I don't know much about it except that since it is a blood thinner, I'd be surprised they want you to take them. They always make you stop taking anything that thins the blood a week or so before any surgery. Sounds odd but there may be a reason.

The Heprin is to thin the blood enough so that it flows through the heart lung machine without any problems. ;)
