My Husband had a heart attack
My husband had a heart attack a week ago while we were camping. We have some questions on things we are unsure about. We were in a small town and called 911 when he had the bad chest pains. He went by ambulance to the hospital where they stabilized him but he had to be sent to a larger city to get medical care.
They did the blood work that showed something elevated in his blood, that along with the chest pain and ekg they determined he was having a heart attack. He was given morphine, nitro and a blood thinner. They did the angio test the next day. One artery was 99% blocked with a blood clot,, they put in a stent and removed the clot. The other arteries were over 90% blocked and over 80%.
Only the one artery was opened.. they said it was too dangerous to do anymore at the same time and he has to go back for at least one more stent.
Is it normal to wait a day to do the angio when having a heart attack? and can only one artery at a time be done?
I think our big question is he at risk for another heart attack while waiting for his other stents. I think it will be around 6-8 weeks before he gets anymore treatment.
We are home now and have an appt with our family Dr on monday. Were going to see about getting him into a heart Dr here in town.
Also at what percent do they place stents??
Sorry for so many questions.. it was really a shock to have this happen. My husband is 55 years old. He was a smoker but hasnt had a cig since the morn of his attack
