Re: Difference between atrial fibrillation and PAC/PVC
Atrial Fibrillation is where heart's electrical signal is messed up, and erratic, in the top part of your heart, the atria. This erratic electrical signal then travels down into the ventricles (the bottom, pumping portion of the heart) where all hell breaks loose and can result in a fast and/or erratic heartbeat, and poor pumping action.
PACs (Premature Atrial Contractions) and PVCs (Premature ventricular contractions) are a lot more common and less dangerous than Atrial Fibrillation. It's where the timing is off, or a little early, for an electrical signal going thru the heart, either in the Atria or the Ventricles.
Just like any machine or engine, your heart is more likely to misfire, when your metabolism, or heart, is under stress, from either exercise or actual stress.
Does your heart misfire (PACs, PVCs, Palpitations) during normal times? When trying to go to sleep? After eating? When going outside? During encounters with smoke, chemicals or odors?
