Do i need to get help now?

Dont know what to do please advise.

48 yr old female, waiting to see heart dr in June, can't see her before then.

Hearts been racing on and off all night, if i move/exert myself heart is racing at 140pm, but if i sit still it slows down again. oxygen levels down to 94%, but last night i kept getting niggling chest pains. They've gone now but ifeel dreadful, feel like i need to sleep desperately, feel like ive been drugged, having some very strong missed beats but just a few, heart rate is now fine as long as i dont move. I just feel unwell but can't explain how. My heart has been playing up like this for the last 5 days, but this unwell feeling is new . I wonder if im going down with a virus or something.

Im waiting to see my heart dr in June, this is the soonest appointment i can get, as ive been getting Atrial Fibrillation on and off, and have a bit of heart failure after having chemotherapy, but its meant to all be mild.

Theres no point going to the hospital as i did this once before, but after waiting over 2 hours to be seen, because i had been sitting resting in the waiting room, my heart was nice and slow, oxygen levels were fine, so they said i was fine and could go home, so i just dont know if i should be ignoring all this or seeking help.

I've been battling with Heart Failure and Permanent Atrial Fibrillation for 25 years, so I am very familiar with the virus-type, unwell, sick feeling that hangs on for hours or even days after increased heart problems.

If I've made a mistake during the day, by consuming too much potassium, salt, calcium, carbohydrates; or if I have taken supplements or vitamins that interact with my medications, I usually suffer the consequences of those wrong decisions during the night.

I think that, during the night the body's circadian rhythm causes changes in hormone levels which directly conflicts with the dietary choices we made during the daytime. This can result in hours or even days of sick, unwell, ucky, fatigued, flu-like feelings.

This is just one of my theories of why it is that I get sooooo very sick at night because of what I did during the daytime.

Did you drink coffee, tea or a lot of soda yesterday? Do any snacking? Do you take supplements or vitamin pills? Any dairy? Salty foods? Lots of veggies?

You must feel very frustrated! You reached out for help before, yet, as nervous and fearful as you were, the hospital kept you waiting for two long, anxious hours! That was awful! I can understand why you don't want to go thru that again. An experience like that just adds to your misery and makes you feel worse, rather than better!

I can't advise you whether to go into the hospital again, or not. During the past 25 years of my heart disease, if I went in every time I suffered nasty symptoms, chest pains, breathing problems, malaise, fast heart rate, strong heart rate, weak heart rate, fatigue, I would have had to camp outside the hospital on a daily basis.

I just hope that your heart settles down today, and that you find out what triggered this latest attack of tachycardia.

About what time did your heart start to race? Was there anything that you think could have caused the fast heart rate (tachycardia)? Was there any early warning sign that the tachycardia was coming on?

Re: Do i need to get help now?

Thank you for your replies. Well i rang for advice and they sent an ambulance, so off i went to hospital.
I explained to them that i cannot move without my heart racing madly and getting severe shortness of breath. They did a bloody test and an ecg, which both came back fine, so they said i could go home. I asked them what should i do when, for example my heart races because im walking around etc, they said just to ignore it??? Well im shocked to say the least but laughing at the same time as i cannot believe it. My local dr has been telling me not to ignore anything, as hearts are to precious, and if i get racing heart, palpitations etc go straight to hospital. Now the hospital say just ignore it. Talk about even more confused, i dont know if im coming or going. The hospital dr said to go and see my local dr to get my appointment with the heart specialist rushed forward and that way i will get things sorted out. ????

Willow,
If you have problems go back to the hospital.
Don't listen to what they say - If you are worried call an ambulance and go back to the hospital.

Good Luck.

Re: Do i need to get help now?

I rang and left a message today with the heart specialists secretary and just said i so need to have a sooner appointment, or is there any canellations? I will await their response, thats if i get one ?
Well today my heart has not been so bad, i slept for hours again which is not like me, but my heart is still going to fast only when i move, but not as bad as yesterday, but what i have noticed today is that my heart is missing lots and lots of beats, i can't remember what these are called. But they are like a thump in my chest, then theres is a gap in my heart rate, not sure if this is AF or not.
I feel that all i can do is let things deteriorate, thats if they are going to deteriorate. Let things get worse until i have to end up in hospital, then i can make a huge complaint that they have told me to ignore my racing heart. You never know, by ignoring things they may just go back to normal, one way or the other things will get sorted out.
But even sitting here i can feel my heart thumping where its missing a beat, or is it where the beat comes too early, im not sure what its called as i said previously, but when ive been in hospital before the drs told me to go straight back if anything like this happens, but she told me yesterday just to ignore it, and she also said to breath into a paperbag, its obvious they think im panicking. I will just have to wait and see.

Re: Do i need to get help now?

If you are worried ring an ambulance and tell them you have a racing heart along with chest pain.
By telling them you have chest pain they should check you out a bit more thoroughly.

Good Luck.

Re: Do i need to get help now?

Thanks Vyking, but to be honest i'm just going to give up.... I'm going to wait and ignore it like this registrar told me to. i have her name on a letter she typed out for me so i know who she is should anything go wrong. Again today ive slept for hours on end, got up and all i was doing today was sitting in my armchair on my laptop, then started to cook dinner. The missed heartbeats started, ( i dont know what they're called) but its where i get that big thump in my chest and i take my pulse and it actually misses a beat. These beats have changed though, they are much harder, firmer and hurt a lot more than they used to?? I felt unwell in general, my chest was hurting, and the missed heartbeats were coming every 20 seconds at least and there was nothing i could do to stop them, i just sat and rested for a few hours, had a light snack, then after a few hours prepared dinner. Eventually they passed, and it is 10.26pm and i feel fine, it has all gone?? But i know its going to come back, its been doing this for a whole week now, and i feel something is slowly building up, but they are not listening to me. How can i go back again, when they have already told me twice their tests were normal and nothing is wrong, and to breathe into this paperbag, obviously they think im panicking. So now im doing what they say, ignoring it, im not breathing into a paper bag as that is just silly, i know im not panicking as i was sitting there chatting on face book, then playing games on my laptop, and laughing etc so i know im fine, but the chest was really hurting, i had to bend over the kitchen worktop to try and get some relief but it didnt work. All i can do is wait and see, but thank you for your help and support, it is much appreciated xx
PS. i have not had any reply back from the heart specialists secretary today.
