Hey everybody. I have been thinking lately about something I was diagnosed with while in 7th grade. I'm 20 now but at the time I came home from football practice(which was only my second year of playing a organized sport at the time) with "blue lips" and my mother made me go to the hospital to get checked out. They did not know if it was a heart murmor or what. They ran test on me and had me wear some machine that monitored my heart for a day. They labeled it an irregular heart beat. I returned to playing sports and had no more health troubles until 10th grade football in which I had an asthma attack and was labeled with sports induced asthma. I have only had two of these and never feel short of breath unless its just a typical athletic or cardio activity. I'm an athletic person as I played football thru 12th grade as well as running track. I still run and workout today. Also sometime very rarely, maybe once every two months my chest on my heart side feels pain for about 2-5 seconds. While younger I always thought it was what heart burn was, but as I became aware of what heart burn is I have no idea why I feel pain sometimes. I was just wondering if it is an irregular heart beat and not a heart murmor because some people tell me it sounds like a heart murmor, maybe they diagnosed it wrong while I was younger? Also is it good that I run and workout or does that make it worse?
Hi WILDCATFAN1992 Welcome to the heart disorder board! I hope the needed support is found. In my opinion if there is a murmur according to the cardiologist then it would be better to do a daily brisk walk and skip any weight lifting or since lifting weights can make an existing murmur worse and mess up future blood circulation.
SJB thank you! My question's main point was to see if maybe the doctors diagnosed my problem wrong years ago. They never labeled me with a heart murmor, it was a possibility I had one before we ran the test but the test came back as an irregular heartbeat. I only grew curious because a woman I work with who is non-medical field told me my symptoms sounded like a heart murmor instead so I wanted to find out on here. I have heard you can have a irregular heart beat and still have a healthy heart.
