I have been doing some research today and I have all the symptoms of irregular heartbeat (dizzyness,near fainting, tiredness, pounding heart, feeling that my heart skips beats, shortness of breath and some mild chest discomfort). My doctor has not done any tests on my heart so far to try and find a diagnosis for me so I am going to discuss this at my appointment on Friday. I would like to have a 24 hour heart monitor test as I read that irregular heart rhythms do not usually show up on ECG tests as they are so short. Would I be right to ask for this test or is there anything else more suitable I should discuss with my doctor. Thanks xx

Absolutely insist on it. What you describe is exactly what I have been suffering for years. I have just been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. Doctors in my past have been slack about investigating/diagnosing it and the diagnosis came this past week when I collapsed from anaphylactic shock. (that's another story). But the atrial fibrillation (AF) was discovered whilst i was in hospital. It is a manageable condition. It carries some risks but these risks can be minimised as simply as taking aspirin. If you don't get any success from your doctor, try another one. 24 hour halter monitor is the first thing to do and if this shows irregularities then an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) to rule out anything structural with the heart. My heart structure is fine.

I will definitely ask about it at my doctors appointment tomorrow, I really think it could help find out what is causing my symptoms x
