| Newly diagnosed AF
I was in hospital over the last week due to anaphylactic shock. It is something I have never experienced before and it was life threatening. I am still waiting to undergo allergy testing to try to ascertain what caused it. Either penicillin (most likely), paracetamol or blood pressure med. I have taken all of these tablets before without problem. Never had an allergy to drugs in my life !
During my hospital stay I was also diagnosed with atrial fibrillation so I am only now just learning about it. I am convinced the diagnosis is correct because the symptoms I complained about for years and doctors didn't really bother with any testing. Actually one doctor did run a 24 hour halter monitor a year ago and never got back to me to tell me there was an abnormality.
Anyhow, i am being put on aspirin for the AF which I understand. Any other medication is going to have to wait until I have been allergy tested because of the anaphylactic shock (i was unconscious within 30 seconds of feeling symptoms). So, it is not something we can lightly experiment with.
Today I have been feeling quite a bit of chest pain which also radiates to my back and around the sides. A constricting feeling really. I am not having any trouble with breathing or any sweating. It could be that I am just very anxious. I put a lot of my chest pain in the past down to anxiety. Echocardiogram is normal. I feel a bit stupid going to my doctor now and saying i am getting worsening chest pain. I am sure he is going to think it is psychological (and it well could be). I am frightened they will put me back in hospital and I will be wasting everyone's time. How common is chest pain with atrial fibrillation. I have felt my heart being much more irregular since the anaphylaxic shock. I am wondering if this has worsened things or again, is this just an anxiety state?
